As part of phase one of the Bharatmala Pari yojana, the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, one of India's and the world's longest expressways, is being developed. By March 2027, it will be completed. Every 100 kilometers, this roadway is the first in India to have helipads and fully equipped trauma centers for accident victims. In addition, the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway will have 93 rest stops along the route. The expressway, according to road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari, is a potential gold mine that can enable the central government to generate toll money between INR 1,000 crores to INR 1,500 crores per month once it is open.
02 – Dwarka Expressway

The Dwarka Highway is an eight-lane access-controlled expressway that would connect Mahipalpur in Delhi to Kherki Daula Toll Plaza in Haryana. It's the country's first elevated urban highway. The upcoming Dwarka Expressway will relieve congestion on the NH-8, which is used by nearly 3 lakh passengers every day. The expressway will feature an Intelligent Transportation System that will provide real-time information on travel time, speed, delays, road accidents, route changes, diversions, and work zone conditions, among other things.
03 – Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway

The Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway, also known as the Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg, would go through 390 villages and 10 districts, reducing travel time between the two cities to eight hours. Around 8,600 hectares of land must be secured for its development, which would cost INR 55,000 crores. This is one of the new expressways, which will be capable of reaching speeds of up to 150 km/h. Along the route, over 24 townships are being built, which will help to enhance economic growth in some of the state's less-developed districts.
04 – Ganga Expressway

In Uttar Pradesh, the Ganga Expressway is a six-lane access-controlled expressway that has been approved. The project would link NH-334 in Meerut District with NH-2 in Praygraj District's Praygraj (Allahabad) Bypass. The state government in February 2022 decided to extend the project on both ends, from Meerut to Haridwar and Praygraj to Varanasi. The 594-kilometer first phase, which connects Meerut and Praygraj.
05 – Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway

The Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway is a four-lane controlled-access highway that would run from Delhi's Bahadurgarh border to Katra in Jammu and Kashmir, passing through Nakodar and Gurdaspur in Punjab. The route would connect two key holy towns, Katra-Vaishno Devi and Amritsar, promoting religious tourism. A trauma centre, ambulances, fire departments, traffic cops, bus bays, truck stops, interchanges with refreshments, and recreational facilities will all be located on the expressway.
06 – Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway

109 kilometers NHAI's Ahmedabad – Dholera Expressway (NH-751) is a four-lane access-controlled highway that connects Sardar Patel Ring Road in Sarkhej to Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) through Dholera International Airport in Navagam. The land purchase for this greenfield highway was completed in July 2025 as part of the Delhi–Mumbai Industrial Corridor Project (DMIC).
07 – Bangalore-Chennai Expressway

The Bangalore-Chennai Expressway is a proposed 258-kilometer long, 4-lane wide access-controlled expressway in India, it will connect Bangalore, Karnataka's capital, with Chennai, Tamil Nadu's capital. It will travel from Bangalore's Hoskote to Sriperumbudur, a small town just outside the Greater Chennai Metropolitan Area. Vehicles will be able to go at 120 km/h (75 mph).
08 – Raipur–Visakhapatnam Expressway

464 kilometers (NH-130CD & EC-15), The Raipur – Visakhapatnam Expressway, commonly known as the Raipur – Vizag Expressway, is a six-lane access-controlled expressway in Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh that was sanctioned by the NHAI. When completed, the distance between Raipur and Vizag will be reduced from 590 km to 464 km, and the travel duration would be reduced from 14 hours to around 7 hours.
09 – Faridabad-Noida-Ghaziabad Expressway

The Faridabad–Noida–Ghaziabad Highway, or FNG Expressway, is a 56-kilometer, 6-lane-wide expressway in India's Delhi NCR area. It would link Haryana's Faridabad with Uttar Pradesh's Noida and Ghaziabad.
10 – Bundelkhand Expressway

296-kilometer-long Bundelkhand Highway is a 4-lane-wide access-controlled expressway in Uttar Pradesh, India. It would link Gonda village on NH-35 in Chitrakoot with Kudrail village on the Agra–Lucknow Expressway in Etowah.

12. Delhi-Dehradun Expressway

The Delhi–Saharanpur–Dehradun Expressway, also known as National Highway 709B (NH 709B), is an under-construction, 210 kilometres (130 mi) long, 12/6 lane access-controlled expressway, which will connect Delhi, the national capital of India, with Dehradun, the capital of the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It will pass through the states of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, and will pass through the cities of Baghpat, Baraut, Shamli and Saharanpur. The National Highway 307 (NH-307) is also part of the Delhi Dehradun Expressway.
It will have two spurs, or link roads, to ensure connectivity with cities lying nearby to its route: one 50.7-kilometre-long (31.5 mi), six-lane Saharanpur–Roorkee–Haridwar Expressway, and another 121-kilometre-long (75 mi), six-lane Ambala-Shamli Expressway. It is being built at a cost of around ₹13,000 crore, and will reduce both travel time and distance, from around 5–6 hours to only 2.5 hours, and from around 280 kilometres (170 mi) to 210 kilometres (130 mi). It connects to Char Dham Highway in Uttarakhand.
13. Ambala-Shamli Expressway

The Ambala Shamli Expressway, part of larger 450-kilometre-long (280 mi) six-lane Bareilly–Ludhiana Economic Corridor (Bareilly-Ludhiana Expressway), is an under construction 6-lane access-controlled 121.786-kilometre-long (75.674 mi) expressway in the Indian states of Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.
Bareilly–Ludhiana Economic Corridor
Bareilly–Ludhiana Economic Expressway is partially access-controlled, partially greenfield & rest upgrade of brownfield highway with following three sections:
- "NH 44 Ambala-Ludhiana Highway", 90-kilometre (56 mi) brownfield upgrade
- "Ambala-Shamli Expressway" (Sadopur- Gogwan Jalalpur Expressway), 121.78-kilometre (75.67 mi) greenfield
- "Shamli-Bareilly Expressway", 220-kilometre (140 mi) greenfield
The extension of Bareilly–Ludhiana Economic Expressway is Bareilly-Gorakhpur Expressway, which will connect with Siliguri–Gorakhpur Expressway.
14. Varanasi–Kolkata Expressway

Varanasi–Kolkata Expressway, also known as Varanasi–Ranchi–Kolkata Expressway numbered as NH-319B, is an under-construction 710 km (440 mi) long, six-lane, greenfield access-controlled expressway, which will connect the spiritual city of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh with the capital of West Bengal, Kolkata, through the capital of Jharkhand, Ranchi. It will run almost parallel to the Grand Trunk Road or the Asian Highway 1, and will pass through four states–Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. The expressway is a part of Bharatmala Pariyojana, and it will reduce both travel time and distance, from 14-15 hours to only 10-11 hours. It will start from Chandauli district in Uttar Pradesh, and will terminate near Sarisha, nearDiamond Harbour, West Bengal.
The foundation stone for the expressway's construction was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 23 February 2024. To be built at a cost of about ₹35,000 crore (US$4.1 billion), it is expected to be completed by 2026/27.
15. Ludhiana–Bathinda–Ajmer Expressway

Ludhiana–Bathinda–Ajmer Expressway (earlier called Pathankot-Ajmer Expressway), consisting of 2 separate Ludhiana–Bathinda Expressway and Bathinda–Ajmer Expressway projects on the "Ludhiana–Ajmer Economic Corridor (EC-8)", is 6-lane (extendable to 8-lanes) access-controlled under-construction express national highway project by the NHAI which will connect Pathankot via Ludhiana to Bathinda and Ajmer. The movement of goods will be facilitated, via Ajmer, from northern states to ports at western coast such as Kandla port.
The expressway for the "Ludhiana–Ajmer Economic Corridor (EC-8)" was redesigned and broken into the following 3 different expressways:
- Pathankot–Ludhiana Expressway (subsumed in Delhi–Amritsar–Katra Expressway)
- Ludhiana–Bathinda Expressway
- Bathinda-Ajmer Expressway
16. Gorakhpur–Siliguri Expressway

Gorakhpur–Siliguri Expressway is an approved 519 km (322 mi) long, four-lane (expandable to 6) access-controlled greenfield expressway, which will connect the city of Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh with the city of Siliguri in West Bengal, India. It will run almost parallel to the India–Nepal border, and will pass through three states–Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal. The expressway is a part of Bharatmala Pariyojana, and it will reduce both travel time and distance, from 14-15 hours only 8-9 hours, and from 640 km (400 mi) to 519 km (322 mi). As it will pass through close to the India–Nepal border, the project is of strategic importance for the country, as it will also benefit Nepal. It will be built at a cost of ₹ 32,000 crore, and will be completed by 2025, which was earlier scheduled at 2028/29. In the future, it will be extended to the capital of Assam and the largest city of Northeast India, Guwahati.
